Banat el Kamar Haflas
A hafla is a Middle Eastern dance party. Banat el Kamar sponsors monthly haflas between November and April.
The dancers may be students, professionals, or anyone in between. There are soloists and group performances. Dancers from the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota belly dance communities join us, all dancers and all styles are welcome.
If you want to watch, just show up. It is free, but we do pass the hat to pay the rent.
Some seating is on the floor, so bring a cushion or folding chair if you like.
If you want to perform, let us know at least a day before the hafla. We want to be sure there is time for all the performers. We suggest that performances be about 5-6 minutes long. Let us know if you want to dance
We usually have time for drumming and social dancing after the performances.
Haflas are on the first Saturday of the month from 7 pm to 9 pm at Lake Harriet Dance Center.
